Todd Clayton

 Todd Clayton, 57, a devoted husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on
Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Todd was born August 3, 1963 in Spartanburg, SC where he grew up. He attended the College
of Charleston and in 1987 he married the love of his life Lynne Earle Clayton.
A summary of Todd (described by others); selflessness, never met a stranger, a stand-up guy,
always fun to be around, kind, intellectual conversationalist, quick witted, loving, and last but
not least someone who loved all and considered everyone a friend/family.
Todd loved to Deep Sea fish, play basketball, build boats, read, & cook (just like his sister
Ginny). His greatest joy in life was his family (especially his grandchildren, his great grandson,
and his puppy dogs).
Todd started his career in textiles with his dad. The two started Clayton Textiles, Inc together.
He was a member of the Textiles, Fibers, & By-Products Association. He retired as owner of
North American Trading Co.
Todd is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lynne Putnam Earle Clayton of Spartanburg, SC. He
became a devoted and loving father as he married Lynne to two daughters, Julie Earle Wells
(Dennis) of Pacolet, SC; Jennifer Earle Hudgins of Boiling Springs, SC; and one son, James
“Jamie” Steven Earle II, of Boiling Springs, SC. Nine grandchildren; Richard (Jessica) Wells,
Jordan Wells, Mackenzey “Mack” Wells, Ellison Wells, Haley Earle, Madison Earle, Taylor
Burkholder, Hannah Hudgins, & Will Hudgins. Three great-grandchildren; Madison and Mason
Wells, Mason Wells & the newest great-grandson Rylan Wells. Todd is also survived by two
brothers; Les Clayton of Greenville, SC and Scott (Pam) Clayton of Nashville, TN as well as a
brother-in-law Howard Gilbert of Panama City, FL. Last of all, he is survived by his two fur-
babies.
Todd was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Hudson “Buddy” Clayton, Ethel Joy
Clayton, and Ginny Gilbert.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday at 4-7pm, July 31, 2021:
