On Friday, June 21, 2024, Ruby Irene Pollard was called home to rest with the Lord. Ruby was born on March 23, 1938 in Union County, SC to the late Henry and Mary Glenn. She moved to Arlington, VA at an early age where she received her education under the Arlington County School System. While attending Hoffman Boston High School, she met and later married Carl Pollard, a union that lasted 54 joyous years. Ruby joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church on March 6, 1949 in Arlington, VA. She later joined Foster’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She served on various committees, she taught Sunday school and helped feed the sick and shut-in. She worked in the medical field at Virginia Hospital and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA for over thirty years. She was a member of the Eastern Stars and Daughters of Isis where she earned the highest title of Commandres which gave her much joy. She loved to go shopping with her daughters and being with family. Ruby enjoyed cooking and baking and was famous for her cabbage and fried corn. She leaves to cherish her loving memory four children, Carl E. Pollard, Jr. of Richmond, VA, Sharon J. Garner of Jonesville, SC, Kare L. Treakle (Bruce) of Burlington, NC and Gary E. Pollard (Jacqueline) of Douglasville, GA; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one aunt, Cevera Lipsey of Jonesville, SC; two sisters, Seretha Armstrong of Arlington, VA and Ola Pennick of Temple Hills, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
