Philip Bradley Rice—known by many as
Pistol P, P, or simply Phil—passed away on
April 5, 2025, at the age of 35. Born on
October 11, 1989, Phil was a bright light to
his family, a solid presence to those who
truly knew him, and a man who lived life on
his own terms.
P was the son of Freda Epps and Mickey
Rice, and the beloved stepson of Tasha
Rice. He is survived by his wife, Samia
Rice, with whom he shared a deep,
unbreakable bond. More than just husband
and wife, they were best
friends—inseparable partners in life who
built a world of love and loyalty together.
He was a devoted father to two beautiful
children: his first son, Mahki Rice, with
whom he shared a lasting and meaningful
bond; and his second son Kennedy Rice
who brought endless joy into his world.
Phil graduated from Union High School,
Class of 2007. He had a gift for music,
especially rapping, and back in the day, he
was known for his skills on the mic. That’s
how "Pistol P" was born—an alias that stuck
around because it fit the energy he brought
everywhere he went. In our hometown, he
was simply “P”—a name filled with respect,
familiarity, and love.
He was real—always. P didn’t sugarcoat the
truth, and people respected that. He was
kind, always smiling, always laughing, and
treated everyone with decency. But he didn’t
hand out his trust easily. He didn’t need a
crowd; he knew who he was, and he stood
firm in it.
Phil worked hard and took care of what
mattered most: his family. He wasn’t
perfect—he never claimed to be—but he
was genuine. And that was enough. More
than enough.
P was known for his unforgettable smile,
infectious laugh, and a memory that never
missed a face or a moment. Whether he
was cracking a joke, showing up for family,
or simply offering a listening ear, P was
always present—fully and wholeheartedly.
To me—his sister Tiffany—P wasn’t just my
brother. He was my twin in spirit. Growing
up, it was always us. We shared friends, we
shared memories, we shared life. Even
when distance came, the bond never broke.
And everyone knew it. It was always “us.”
We spoke a language only we understood.
And even in silence, I’ll always hear him.
Phil is survived by his siblings Mickey Rice,
Latasha Davis, Tiffany Rice, Essence Rice,
Chanze Rice; and his in-laws, Krystle Rice,
Marc Davis, and Darius Bryson. He was a
proud uncle to Aryana Bryson, Darius
Bryson Jr., Desmond Rice, Brayden Rice,
Mikenzie Kershaw, Austin Davis, and
Cameron Davis—each one a piece of his
heart and joy. He leaves behind a large
family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who are
too many to name, along with a circle of
people who felt his presence deeply.
P was deeply connected to his lifelong
brothers in friendship: Jerel Norman,
Quinten Williams, Chad Johnson, and
Aldolfo McQueen.
Phil also leaves behind his extended family
through marriage, including his
mother-in-law Darlene Carr, father-in-law
Albert Carr, and brothers-in-law Derrick Carr
and Christopher Carr.
P’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and
laughter—a life that reminds us to smile a
little more, show up for one another, and
never forget the people who matter most.
He lit up any room he walked into, not with
flash, but with something you could feel in
your chest. He was a husband, a father, a
son, a brother, an uncle, a friend—but most
of all, he was unapologetically himtoo many to name, along with a circle of
