Mrs. Mary Ethel Harp Lemon, widow of Mr. James Arthur Lemon and daughter of the late Mr. Judge
Harp and Mrs. Anna Burton Harp was born in Newberry County, Newberry SC. Sister Lemon was born
on April 16, 1930. She departed this life on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Union Medical Center
Hospital, Union, SC.
She attended the public schools of Newberry County and she worked at Clinton Mills and J.P. Stevens for
many years where she retired from. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years.
Sister Lemon was preceded in death by three brothers, Sheveret Harp of Newberry, John Harp (Mable
Harp) of Maybinton, SC, Judge Harp (Ruby Harp) also from Maybinton, SC and one sister, Roberta
Whitener of Whitmire, SC. One son-in-law, Mr. Jesse H. Lyles and a great grandchild also preceded in
death.
She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lucille Harp Lyles, Grandchildren; Melinda H
Tucker (Samuel) of Carlisle, SC, John F. Harp (Charmaine), and Stanley L. Harp (Tekisha) all of
Spartanburg, SC; ten great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces,
nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
