Obituary

Ernest Edward Millwood, 84, a treasured husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

On February 27, 1966, Ernest married the love of his life, Connie Harris Millwood. They snuck away to Chester County Courthouse and kept it a secret for a week until Connie convinced her oldest sister, Trudy, to tell their parents. Ernest promised Connie's parents that he would always love and take care of their daughter. He kept his promise for fifty-seven years.

After a few years of marriage, Ernest and Connie had a house full of love. Ernest was a loving father to Bibi, Kim, Opal, and Jane.

Just when Ernest and Connie thought their family was complete, they opened their home and hearts to Connie's baby sister, Gay, after the untimely passing of Connie and Gay's parents. Thou Gay was Ernest's sister-in-law; in his eyes, she was his daughter.

Ernest provided for his family by being a truck driver for over 50 years. In Ernest's words, "I raised four kids and Connie." Because of his hard work and dedication, Connie and the kids had a good life. The world has lost a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; that will be greatly missed by many.

Ernest will be remembered as a loving family man who truly adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved spending his retired days watching Westerns, piddling around his shop, and doing yard work.

Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Connie; son, Bibi (Stacy); daughters, Kim (Brent) and Jane (Joey); grandchildren, Jordan (Brittany), Jana, and Clay (Melissa); great-grandchildren, Emree, Mikalyn, and Austin; sister Betty; and brothers, Hubert, Tommy, and David.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Corrie Millwood; his daughters, Opal Diane Millwood and Gay Harris Turner; granddaughter, Ashley Knox; sisters, Ella Mae Dill, Mamie Roberson, Pearl Wynn, and Bennie Sue Millwood; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Buddy and Trudy Gillespie.

A special thank you to his niece, Nicole, for her quick actions that gave the family the extra time to say goodbye to an extraordinary man.

A graveside service will be held at Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at 2 pm.

Pallbearers are Lynn Fore, Shawn Gillespie, Jordan Lewis, Jon Mitchell, Clay Turner and Dale Wynn.
