Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy (Dot) Ann Harris Morris, age 89, of 104 Harris Circle, Union, passed away peacefully and celebrated her homecoming with the Lord Jesus Christ on July 12, 2023. Mrs. Morris was the former wife of Horace Vernon (Demo) Morris also of Union, SC who was critically injured with life sustaining injuries on July 28, 1972 while employed with the Union County Fire Department. Mrs. Morris remained by his side and assisted her daughter caring for him up until his joining the Lord on August 13, 2015. Missing their Mother and Mema are two (2) children, a son, Randy Mel Howell and a daughter, Charlotte Ann Morris both of Union, two grandchildren, Dorothy Nicole Henderson, husband Gordon, and Meghan Howell Grijalva, husband Fernando and two (2) great-grandsons, Michael and Christopher Henderson and one (1) great-granddaughter, Ferlin Grijalva. Mrs. Morris was the last remaining of her immediate family of twelve (12) children born of James Wallace and Nannie Gault Harris of Union. Her brothers and sisters from eldest to youngest were Frank Harris, Douglas Harris, Emanuel (Preach) Harris, Julian Harris, Everette Harris and Curtis (Curt) Harris, and sisters Lillian Wix, Ada Adams, Rachel Roark and Sara Howell. Mrs. Morris graduated from Kelly Pinckney School in 1952 where she was their star Forward and Center Guard for the Girls basketball team. Her Senior year, 1952, she helped take the team to their high school championship game in Columbia, SC where they came in runner up. Mrs. Morris followed and loved the sport of baseball also, especially since her son, Randy Howell, played for the St. Louis Cardinals. For the last four (4) years, Mrs. Morris enjoyed sitting with her daughter every Sunday learning about Jesus and His teachings of God’s Word by Dr. Charles Stanley of InTouch Ministries, memories that her daughter will forever hold close to her heart Mrs. Morris loved and lived a very content life with her two children living by her side. Mother and Mema will be missed greatly and we look forward to reuniting with her in God’s appointed time for our lives. Please join us in celebrating her life Sunday, July 16, 2023, Service will be held at 3:00 pm at Lewis Funeral Home Chapel, 1247 South Duncan ByPass, Union conducted by Rev Richard Lewis and burial will follow at Union Memorial Gardens, Whitmire Highway, Union. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm prior to the service.
