Charley Coleman lll was born on June 24, 1952, to the late Charley Coleman ll and Ruth Coleman in Union, SC. After the passing of his mother, Charley was raised by his grandmother, Beulah Byrd, until he relocated to Washington DC when he was 19 to live with his father. Charley worked for the State Department and Southern Management Company, which he retired from.
His greatest joy was his children, Marvin, Paul, Jackie, Sharnese, Jerry, Candace, Kenny, Darron, Steve, Jermaine (who preceded him in death), Sonya (stepdaughter), Jason (stepson), sister-in-law, Marie Williams, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and relatives. Additionally, Charley leaves three aunts, Mae and Marie of Union, SC and Betty of Riverdale Park, MD, five uncles, Russell, Berra, Larry, Buddy, and Theo of Union, SC.
Charley had a great love for music playing the bass guitar, electric guitar, piano, and keyboard. Charley established himself as a great musician showcasing his talent throughout DC metropolitan area and beyond. In June of 2014 Charley met Shirley Ross at Marlow Heights Community Center, which they went on to marry on November 18, 2018.
On December 20, 2023, Charley peacefully passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, music, and unwavering faith in God through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Family and friends will unite on Thursday, January 4, 2024 for visitation at 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at St. Mark AME Church, 5427 Indian Head Highway, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment will be held in South Carolina.
