Charles Eugene Dawkins

Mr. Charles Eugene (Mickey) Dawkins departed this life on May 8, 2024, at his home in Union SC after an extended illness and a gallant love of life. Better known by most people as “Mickey”, he was born on October 8, 1955 in Union County. He was the son of his late parents Ms.  Louvenia Rice Dawkins and father, Mr. Adolphus Wicks. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Mrs. Polly Rice Dawkins and Mr. Willie Dawkins, Sr. of Union County.

Mr. Dawkins is the father to three (3) children Monte D. Lindsey, Union, SC, and Kelvet Neal, Carlisle SC. He is preceded in death by his youngest son, Charles Eugene Miles.

Being raised in the home of his grandparents, Mickey was raised not as a grandchild but as a brother. He was preceded in death by his Uncle James A. Rice, Sr., and First Cousin John Lee (Viola) Rice, and one adopted brother, James (Cheetah) Beam. He leaves two Aunts mourn his passing: Mary Browning, Union, SC and Christine Dawkins, Spartanburg SC. There are six (6) Uncles: Emmit (Madora) Dawkins, Jimmie (Patsie), Ozell (Louise) Graceville, Fla, Charles (Kathleen), Willie Dawkins Jr, and Leroy Beam all of Union, SC.

Mickey has three siblings from the home of his father, Mr. Adolphus Wix: Ida (Andre) Hills, Wanda Wix, and LuWan Wix, who reside in Ohio and New York. He will truly be missed by a large host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family relatives and friends. Because he loved to travel, he was able to make his home in multiple states and spend time with both sides of his family. However, he finally returned home to Union, SC and could be seen riding to and from Columbia, but most of all, he loved cooking and inviting people over for a meal or sitting under “The Tree” just shooting the breeze with all who pass by.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Lewis Funeral Home chapel. Burial to follow at Maple Ridge Baptist Church cemetery. Public viewing will be held May 14, 2024 from 12:00 until 5:00pm at Lewis Funeral Home. Family is at the home 301 Columbus St. Union. Lewis Crematory and Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
