Mr. Monroe Smith, 91, of 106 Pleasant View Drive, Union, widower of Mrs. Dottie Jenkins Smith, died Sunday May 12,  2019 at his home after five years of declining health.
Mr. Smith was born June 24,  1927,  a son of the late Richard C. and Lillie Griffin Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran, having served in the Army, Navy and the Air Force. He was retired after 50 years from Sloan Construction. He was a member of The Greater Union Church.
 He is survived by two  daughters, Barbara S. Medford (Billy)  and  Pat S. Gibson (Thomas); three granddaughters:  Tracy G. Cornwell, Leslie G. Wetmore and  Danielle  M. Bennett; one  grandson,  Dustin Medford; and great-grandchildren: Kensley Hill, Hannah Hill, Mason Bennett and Loralie Bennett. He was predeceased by two  sons:  Charles Hudson and Ricky Smith,  a  granddaughter, Tara Smith; a  brother Arthur Smith; and three sisters,  Beatrice Williams, Bernice Foster, and Claudis Horne.
 Graveside memorial services will be  held Thursday May 16,  2019 at 3 p.m. at Rosemont Cemetery.
 The family is receiving   friends at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pat Gibson, 114 Pleasant View Drive, Union.
